INQUIRY CHART

Inquiry charts may be used to determine comprehension and critical thinking throughout the reading activity. Students can work independently, in small groups, or together as a class to pose questions and find the answers.

How to use an inquiry chart:

  1. Provide each student with a blank chart.

  2. Discuss questions about the topic. Have students write them at the top of each individual column.

  3. In each row, instruct students to record any prior knowledge and key ideas from each source of information. The last row asks students to tie together these ideas in a summary.
