FIRST LINES

For this pre-reading comprehension strategy, instruct students to read only the beginning sentences from a book and then make predictions. As the students read the remainder of the text, encourage them to revisit and/or revise their original predictions as needed. This activity may be done individually, in small groups, or as a class before reading.
